About Image Compressor

Image Compressor is a free online tool that reduces image file sizes by up to 90% while maintaining visual quality. Upload PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, or BMP images, choose your compression level, and download optimized files — all processed entirely in your browser. The tool offers four compression presets: Lossless-like (95%) preserves nearly all detail for archival or print use, Balanced (82%) provides the best tradeoff between quality and file size for most web use cases, Aggressive (60%) significantly reduces size for bandwidth-sensitive applications, and Maximum (35%) achieves the smallest possible file size for thumbnails or low-priority images. You can also set a custom quality level using the slider, choose an output format (keep original, JPEG, WebP, or PNG), and optionally resize images by setting maximum width or height constraints. The strip metadata option removes EXIF data including camera info, GPS coordinates, and other embedded data — useful for privacy when sharing photos online. Every compressed image is displayed with a side-by-side before/after comparison showing the original and compressed versions, file sizes, dimensions, and exact savings percentage. A visual progress bar shows how much smaller the compressed file is compared to the original. Common use cases include optimizing images for websites to improve page speed and Core Web Vitals, reducing photo file sizes before email attachments, compressing screenshots for documentation, batch optimizing product images for e-commerce, stripping metadata from photos before sharing online, and preparing images for mobile apps where bandwidth matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All compression happens in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device.
How much can images be compressed?
Typically 40-90% reduction depending on the format and quality setting. WebP output generally achieves the best compression ratios.
Does compression reduce image quality?
At Balanced (82%) or higher settings, quality loss is barely perceptible. Use the side-by-side preview to compare before downloading.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Yes. Upload multiple files and batch compress them all with the same settings. Download individually or all at once.
